Intuition vs. “Psychic” Skills: What They Really Are, and How to Sharpen Them
What Intuition Actually Is
Intuition is your brain processing information faster than you can explain. It draws on experience, patterns, and subtle cues you’ve picked up without realizing it. That “gut feeling” is often your subconscious flagging something important.
-
Signs you’re already using intuition:
- You meet someone and instantly feel trust or caution, then later see why.
- You wake up knowing the answer to a problem you slept on.
- You choose a path or option without a logical reason—and it works.
Many traditions describe psychic ability as sensing beyond the five senses—linked in yogic systems to the _Ajna chakra_, or “third eye.” Others frame it as heightened creativity, empathy, or pattern recognition. Science hasn’t validated extrasensory perception, but people across cultures report experiences they can’t explain.
Whether you see it as spiritual or psychological, the useful part is this: paying attention to inner signals can help you make better decisions and connect more deeply.
You don’t need to believe in mysticism to get better at listening to yourself. Try these:
1. Micro-Decision Practice
Build the “intuition muscle” with low-stakes choices:
– Breakfast: waffles or toast?
– Shirt: blue or green?
Pause, notice the first impulse, choose it, and watch the outcome. You’re training yourself to notice and trust subtle preferences.
2. Object Focus Exercise
– Fold a small paper square into a tent and balance it on a pen.
– Sit quietly, breathe, and focus your attention on it for 2 minutes.
You likely won’t move it with your mind. But you _will_ notice how hard it is to hold attention—and that’s the real skill. Focus is the foundation of both intuition and any focused mental practice.
3. Body Scan for Clues
Before a decision, check in:
– What does my chest feel like? Tight or open?
– What’s my gut saying?
– What thought came first, before my mind started arguing? Write it down. Revisit later to see how often your first sense was accurate.

Real Life Experience of A Gardener
A client of mine is an excellent gardener. She used to dismiss her “hunch” that a plant needed water, even when the soil looked fine. After practicing body scans, she noticed she’d feel a slight thirst herself right before checking that plant. She started trusting it. Her
plants got healthier. Was it psychic? Or was she noticing micro-signals in the leaves, soil
smell, and air that her conscious mind missed? Either way, her results improved because she paid attention.
A Note on Growth and Patience
Developing sharper awareness takes time. You’ll have days when nothing clicks. That’s
normal. The goal isn’t to become “psychic.” The goal is to get better at listening to the information your mind and body are already giving you.
Intuition is a tool, not a diagnosis. If you’re making major life, health, or safety decisions, use
intuition alongside logic, advice from trusted people, and professional guidance when
needed.
